SMWC Woods Giving Day set for February 6

News | 01.23.2024

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s (SMWC) annual day of giving, Woods Giving Day, will take place on Tuesday, February 6, uniting the campus community, alumni and friends of the College for the largest fundraising day of the year. The theme of Woods Giving Day this year is Pomeroy Pride.

The goal for Woods Giving Day is to reach 1,000 unique donors. During last year’s Woods Giving Day, the College collectively raised nearly $300,000 on Woods Giving Day.

The theme of Woods Giving Day 2024 is Pomeroy Pride.

Like last year, Woods Giving Day Challenges will be presented throughout the day to encourage SMWC alumni and friends to give. This year, an Early Bird Challenge has been made, encouraging all alumni and friends to give early for Woods Giving Day. SMWC Trustees Mary Kay Campbell Watson ’69 and Al Watson are sponsoring the challenge. If SMWC reaches 500 unique donors before Woods Giving Day, they will donate $40,000 to the College. There are multiple ways to make an early gift towards Woods Giving Day:

  • Calling 888-769-0013
  • Mailing a check with “Woods Giving Day” in the memo line to PO Box 70, Saint Mary of the Woods, IN 47876
  • Giving online with a note of “Woods Giving Day” at giving.smwc.edu

Several local businesses will be supporting Woods Giving Day with special offerings to help promote the day and to expand ways for the community to participate:

  • Azzip Pizza will donate 20% of all proceeds for the day to SMWC. (Terre Haute location)
  • Bright Ideas is the sponsor of the beloved Woods Giving Day socks. Donors who give $50 or more will receive an exclusive pair of SMWC socks.
  • Chick-fil-A will give 20% of total sales that mention SMWC Spirit Day. (Terre Haute location)
  • Culver’s will donate 100% of the proceeds from sundaes, shakes and cheese curds. (Both Terre Haute locations)
  • ISU Credit Union is sponsoring a Woods Giving Day Challenge and will make a gift of $2,500.
  • Little Bear Coffee Co. will donate $1 from each Pomeroy Bear Bomb sold on Woods Giving Day. (Terre Haute and Rosedale locations)
  • The Cottage will donate $1 from every kicker drink and large coffee. (Clinton location)
  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce is another community partner for Woods Giving Day, as they will continue to assist in promoting the day.
Students volunteer their time to call alumni and friends on Woods Giving Day.

Jessica Crawford ’19G, MLD, advancement officer, shared that she and the Office of Advancement team look forward to the day. “We are thrilled to celebrate Woods Giving Day this year. Of course, the day wouldn’t be possible without our alumni and friends who give to the Woods Fund and on Woods Giving Day. The gifts made towards Woods Giving Day immediately impact the student experience at the College. Ultimately, we want our donors to know that their gifts are more meaningful as they shape Woods students to go out and change the world,” Crawford said. During the day, volunteers will call donors and thank them for their support of SMWC. In addition to volunteering on Woods Giving Day, there will be several activities on campus for students, faculty and staff to be involved in. For more information, visit smwc.edu/wgd-2024/.
