Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women’s basketball team has added four players to its 2012 recruiting class, head coach Deanna Bradley announced. Krissy Bruce, Sierra Lopez, Mikayla Metheny and Jessica Walker signed letters of intent and will join the Pomeroys for the 2012-13 season.
“We have signed a great group of student athletes,” Bradley shared. “Each of these young women brings a great work ethic and passion for the game of basketball. They will be a great benefit to our program and to The Woods.”
Information on each of the students follows:
Krissy Bruce
Krissy Bruce, point guard at Lafayette Jeff High School in West Lafayette, Ind., averaged nearly 7 points per game and 4 assists per game for the season.
“Krissy is a tenacious defender,” Bradley said. “She is quick, handles the ball well, and brings a true point guard mentality to our program.”
Sierra Lopez
Bringing help in the post is Sierra Lopez, a five-foot eleven-inch forward from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind.
“Sierra is a strong physical post player who we are relying on to help us with rebounding and defending the post position,” Bradley commented. “This is an area we have struggled with this past season and we are looking forward to working with Sierra to help us improve.”
Mikayla Metheny
Mikayla Metheny, a five-foot six-inch point guard from Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Ind., brings versatility to the Pomeroys.
“Mikayla has great court sense,” Bradley said. “She handles the ball well and can play both the point and shooting guard positions, and is a good on ball defender.”
Jessica Walker
Offering great scoring ability is Jessica Walker, a five-foot ten-inch point guard from Western Boone High School in Thorntown, Ind.
Bradley explained, “Jessica is very accurate from the 3-point line. She does a great job of getting up and down the court and will be a tremendous asset to our running game.”
