Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) will welcome home alumni and friends for a fun-filled Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 2-4.
On Friday, Oct. 2, the women’s volleyball team will host a match against Indiana University Columbus in Hamilton Arena at 7 p.m. Both the women’s and men’s cross-country teams will compete in the Nike XC Town Twilight Meet on Friday evening at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at 5:40 p.m.
Students, faculty and staff will gather Friday afternoon to remember the late Ben Myers ’20 at the dedication of a golf practice facility named in his honor in the lower level of the Rooney Center.
Myers will also be one of four inductees in the SMWC Athletic Hall of Fame. The new class will be inducted Saturday during the Hall of Fame Brunch, presented by The Hometown Savings Bank. Inductees include:
- 1997 Softball team
- Sarah Burnham Haltom ’16 — Softball
- Brittney Shaner Rehs ’13 — Women’s Basketball
- Ben Myers ’20 — Men’s Golf (posthumously)
Saturday’s athletic events will kick off on campus with the equestrian team hosting the SMWC Homecoming Invitational, presented by the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau at 9 a.m. . At 1 p.m. women’s volleyball will play Indiana University Southeast in Hamilton Arena
Tailgating will begin at 10: 30 a.m. on Saturday at McMahon Field ahead of the 1 p.m. kickoff against Madonna University (MI). Homecoming events will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Les Bois lawn and will include food, yard games, music, prizes, caricature art and alumni- and student-led information tables.
Alumni will also participate in women’s volleyball and softball games on Saturday. The women’s alumni volleyball game will be at 10 a.m. in Hamilton Arena and the softball alumni game will start at 5:30 p.m. at the SMWC Softball Field.
The community will honor the College’s foundress, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, during an 11 a.m. Feast Day Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday. Current and former members of the SMWC Chorale will perform in a short concert in the church after Mass.
The SMWC Homecoming Invitational, presented by the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau, equestrian event will continue on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
