Name: Mikayla Mills
Major: Nursing and Psychology
Hometown: Brownsburg, Indiana

1. Why did you choose to earn your degree at SMWC?
The original reason I looked into SMWC was the historical aspect this campus provides. I thought all the buildings were beautiful and contained a story. I appreciated the quality of the nursing program and that this school advocates for student-athletes. Being a part of the softball team and double majoring can get busy at times, but the environment this campus creates is supportive.

2. Why did you choose your major?
I chose my nursing major because I have a drive to provide. I believe that I have the right mindset to promote a comfortable environment. Healthcare can be scary, and often I will see people at the worst point in their lives. I hope to be the person that they can look back on and know that they were given a positive experience. My end goal was supposed to be to become a Nurse Practitioner, specialized in Psychology, but I have decided to go on another path, so I am finishing my psychology major for fun.

3. What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the turtle tank in Hulman Hall. Sometimes, you are not in the brightest mood about having a day full of classes, but seeing that turtle always puts a smile on your face. But then you turn around and get scared by the eel.

4. What is a favorite memory you have from your Woods experience?
My favorite memory from being a part of The Woods is winning the River States Conference (RSC) my sophomore year. Our team dynamic was on point, and the vibes were right. We all had fun and goofy painted faces while we took the RSC championship, and I will always remember walking up for my 2nd team award with a glittery Batman painted on my face.

5. How do you plan to stay connected to SMWC after graduating?
I will always be connected to SMWC after I graduate. I can’t wait to say I have achieved my BSN from a program to be proud of. I have seen SMWC  nurses in their practice, and they are wearing their Woods Ring and proud of where they came from. I am excited to join that dynamic when I graduate.
