Alumni Affinity Groups
Connect with fellow alumni who have common interests by joining an Alumni Affinity Group.
Alumni who share a common interest, identity and/or purpose are encouraged to establish an official Alumni Affinity Group with the SMWC Office of Alumni Relations. The groups will unite through periodic events to socialize and network helping them to stay connected with each other and the College. Alumni Affinity Groups are recognized by, and accountable to, the SMWC Office of Alumni Relations. They are led by a Campus Liaison and volunteer Alumni Coordinators.
The purpose of an Alumni Affinity Group:
- Bring alumni together for networking, social activities and community service via the College’s Celebrating Service initiative.
- Provide support to students, alumni and the campus department(s) in the respective affinity.
- Advance the mission of the College.
- Build relationships among SMWC alumni both personally and professionally.
How to start an Alumni Affinity Group:
- Make a campus connection – Alumni Affinity Groups are required to have a liaison from a department related to their affinity group. This liaison will be responsible for assisting with alumni contact list requests, sending emails and creating events.
- Find alumni help – Affinity Groups with multiple alumni coordinators (2-3) find it easier to complete the planning process and to plan for succession. Alumni coordinators will work in close partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations to generate event ideas as well as recruiting and promoting events to their alumni groups.
- Complete and submit the Alumni Affinity Group Application. The application will be reviewed by the Office of Alumni Relations. This process may take several weeks.
- Once approved, the alumni coordinator will participate in a meeting with the Office of Alumni Relations to discuss the next steps.
