Along with the beauty of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s (SMWC) 311-acre campus, several spots can be identified as “picture-perfect.” Taking photos on campus is common for all members of The Woods community. Check out five selfie spots on campus!

1. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin statue
A beloved treasure on the SMWC campus – the statue of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin has been the setting of numerous pictures for students, faculty, staff, alumni and other visitors.

2. Aspire
The Aspire sculpture, completed and dedicated during SMWC Reunion 2022, is a beautiful art piece outside the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center on campus. The Nordloh Family Foundation and a $25,000 gift made in memory of Mary Cavanaugh Nordloh ’60, the sculpture serves as a memorial piece to honor Nordloh and the passion she had for art.

3. Les Bois Mural
Painted by local artist Becky Hochhalter in the Fall of 2022, the mural in the courtyard of Les Bois Hall has been a vibrant and perfect photo-op addition to campus. The College was a recipient of a Public Art Grant from the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC). The mural has a few hidden features within it.

4. The Class of 1962 Ring Garden
Revealed at the 2022 Ring Centennial Dinner, The Class of 1962 Ring Garden was created to honor the Class of 1962 in their creation of what is now known as The Ring Song. Within the garden, right along The Avenue, stands a beautiful five-foot sculpture of the Ring Onyx with the SMW insignia. Several students have already taken pictures of the recent campus addition.

5. The Avenue
The first view as soon as you pull through the front gates of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. The Avenue has become a staple at SMWC. Several have described The Avenue as welcoming, peaceful, reassuring of belonging and more. In alignment with The Avenue’s significance at the College, many alumni reminisce about their Avenue Moment, often referred to as the moment students realize that The Woods is home.
