Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has received a grant for $49,590 from the U.S. Embassy in Greece. The grant will fund the Greek and American Gender Equality (GAGE) Program, which is designed to address gender equality in Greece.
SMWC will partner with the University of West Attica (UNIWA) in Athens, Greece, with the goal of strengthening the educational ties and the student mobility of both institutions by working together on developing gender equality case studies which they will be applied to multiple types of organizations in the Greek economy. The project includes case study workshops, immersive study abroad components, cross-cultural collaboration, multidimensional mentorship, and publication opportunities of the outputs with an extensive social impact in improving Greece’s ranking in gender equality in EU nations.
The participants of the projects will be selected graduate and doctoral students and faculty from SMWC and UNIWA.
Dr. Lamprini Pantazi, dean of business and leadership at SMWC, is excited to lead the GAGE program. “I am very pleased to work with our partners, U.S. Embassy in Greece and UNIWA in Greece on this exciting project. By generating shared intellectual capital through collaborative interactions and activities, the project will develop educational resources that reflect the unique national cultures of Greece and the US while leveraging common interests in gender equality and leadership development.”
Kristin Roberts, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, notes: “Increasing student mobility and educational ties between U.S. and Greek higher educational institutions is a top priority for the U.S. government. We at the U.S. Embassy are delighted to support the joint efforts of SMWC and UNIWA to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity in the workforce, and we hope that more institutions will follow.” The GAGE Program will launch in October with a workshop that will be held at UNIWA in Athens for the selected graduate and doctoral students and faculty.
