Virginia Unverzagt, D. Min., professor emerita

Virginia Unverzagt, D. Min., professor emerita, died on June 27, 2013.  

Unverzagt served Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for 12 years until retiring at the end of the 2012-13 academic year as a tenured associate professor of theology. During this time, she was the Director of the Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology for ten years where she was responsible for the leadership and administration of the program and advising of all students.  She was an engaged faculty member serving on the Academic Council, Higher Learning Commission Steering Committee, the 2007 Program Analysis Committee Graduate Council, as well as various faculty assembly committees throughout her tenure. 

She was active in the Wabash Valley community with membership and board positions in organizations such as United Campus Ministries and The Arc of Indiana. 

Unverzagt earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and math from SMWC in 1970 and her master degree in pastoral theology in 1988 also from The Woods. She received her doctorate in ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation, in 1994.  Never giving up and always having a stalwart spirit and attitude, she embodies the spirit of The Woods as an alumni and faculty member.
