Janet Clark, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced that Marcia Ann Miller, Ph.D., chairperson and professor of nursing, has been promoted to Dean of the Division of Nursing and Science, effective July 1, 2022, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC).
As Dean, Miller will be a member of the Extended Cabinet. Her strategic vision, creativity, student-centeredness and leadership abilities will continue as she takes over the leadership of the newly formed Division of Nursing and Sciences. Miller will continue to explore growth and synergies and effectively work with departments to strategically champion and advance their programs and enrollment.
Clark stated, “Dr. Miller has proven herself as an accomplished and creative faculty member since her arrival at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in January 2014. I look forward to the synergy and focus that the new division will allow and the exciting results that are sure to arise.”
Upon starting at SMWC, Miller was charged with developing and launching the first nursing program in the history of SMWC. By 2015, she had gained approval from the Indiana State Board of Nursing and the Higher Learning Commission to start the baccalaureate in nursing, which has grown to be the largest enrolled campus program. In 2016, she successfully secured Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accreditation. She has also been instrumental in the startup of other programs such as the Master of Science in Nursing and the Associate Degree in Paramedic Science. Alongside these significant accomplishments, Miller continues to serve as a great role model and mentor to many SMWC students.
Miller shared that she’s excited to take on her new role on July 1. “I am honored to be a part of this nursing program and the mission of compassionate care that we have at The Woods. The faculty is top-notch and I am enthusiastic about the future.”
