You’ve heard the saying, “Two heads are better than one.” Imagine the good that can be done by four heads coming together for a collaboration to benefit special needs children. That’s what happened between three professors and the director of the Community School of the Arts when they developed “Literacy and Music: For Life!” – a program that fused music therapy and occupational therapy to help children with special needs work toward communication, writing and social interaction goals, including handwriting and letter identification.
Involved in amazing collaboration to provide music therapy and literacy services for special needs children were Sharon Boyle, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) associate professor of music therapy, and Nathan Mensah, SMWC music therapy student.
