Sarah Robinson signs with SMWC

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is proud to announce that Sarah Robinson of Shelbyville, Kentucky, signed a letter of intent to accept a soccer scholarship with the Pomeroys on Friday, May 11, 2012. She is an accomplished athlete, an excellent student, and a person who’s willing to challenge herself.

The captain of her high school team, Robinson earned Team Most Valuable Player honors and was named to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 16 All-Tournament Team. She has also honed her talents as a player for the last four years with the Javanon Soccer Club of Louisville, one of the premier clubs in Kentucky, playing both in midfield and in front.

As a student, she is a member of the National Beta Club, the National Honor Society, and National Honors Society of High School Scholars. She was awarded the Principal’s Award for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA while participating in athletics, and was most recently awarded the Presidential Scholarship at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, with plans to major in Biology/Pre-Professional Studies. These honors only begin to show her initiative, though. Taking extra classes, she made the Dean’s List at Jefferson Community College while still enrolled in high school, graduating from high school a semester early. Remarkably, she is also a member of the Kentucky National Guard and will train with them this summer before arriving at The Woods.

Robinson will become the seventh signee in a very strong new class. Coach Mike Aycock believes her skills and experience will be very welcome: “Sarah is one of those people that kind of define ‘student athlete,’ and we’re lucky to have her join us. She should fit in well and contribute right away.”

The Pomeroys won bids to the USCAA national soccer tournament in 2009 and 2010, finishing as runners-up in 2009.
