Indiana Private College Week proclaimed by the governor’s office

News | 07.18.2012

The Office of the Governor has proclaimed July 23-27, 2012, as Indiana Private College Week.  During this special week, all 31 private, nonprofit colleges and universities across the state are opening their campus doors to students, parents, and any others interested in the college selection and admissions process.

To celebrate Private College Week, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College presents Explore Your Future on July 26, 2012. Students and their families will get an overview of the College and have the opportunity learn about academic programs, student life and financial aid. Students will connect one-on-one with future professors and classmates. Programs for students and parents, plus tours, a scavenger hunt and lunch round out the day’s activities.

The signed proclamation cites the productivity of Indiana’s independent sector of higher education. While enrolling only 20% of the state’s undergraduates, ICI campuses produce 35% of its bachelor’s degrees, and also graduate the majority of their students within four years. Also cited is the distinctive role the 31 campuses play in the advancement of Indiana, not only through high-quality education, but also in economic, cultural and civic contributions to communities throughout the state.

Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc.
(ICI) is a nonprofit association that represents the state’s 31 private nonprofit colleges and universities. ICI member institutions enroll some 90,000 students (approximately 20 percent of all students statewide) and annually produce 35 percent of all bachelor’s degrees in Indiana.
