Leadership program accepting applications
September 10th, 2015 | SMWC
The Wabash Valley Leadership Institute (WVLI) announces its third cohort scheduled for Nov. 16-20, 2015, on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). Applications are being accepted until Oct. 2, 2015. The WVLI is looking for community members who are ready to be awesome, to be trail blazers for their organizations and the community – people who are ready to become better leaders, communicators, facilitators and collaborators.
“The organizers developed the program as a means for leaders to improve their communication and leadership skills. Although leadership development was a huge take-away from the week-long program, that became just a component,” states WVLI graduate, Marla Flowers, director of operations at Hulman & Company. “The friendships forged, the business and community partnerships created and the overall team-building skills that were developed became a lifelong learning lesson. I continue to be incredibly grateful to have been included!”
The WVLI is a joint collaboration between SMWC and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. The week-long program is committed to engaging and energizing leadership efforts in the Wabash Valley. Program curriculum focuses on personal growth in leadership, organizational behavior skills, and community growth in a leadership capacity. Topics covered include leadership identity, communication strategies, community collaboration, creative leadership, team building, resource management and governance as leadership.
“As a graduate of the WVLI, I know first-hand the benefits of this program both personally and professionally. Although I have attended many conferences, this was unlike those experiences,” states WVLI graduate, Kristin Craig, director of operations and communications for the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. “I left campus on Friday afternoon feeling refreshed and energized with a revitalized sense of community. The lessons learned and bonds created during this week will remain with me indefinitely.”
This year’s keynote speaker will be Judge Glenda Hatchett, who presides over the syndicated television court show, “Judge Hatchett.” To apply to the WVLI, visit http://www.smwc.edu/wvli/application/.
