The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Western Equestrian team closed out their regular season in style by winning the Zone 7, Region 1 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Regional Championship on Jan. 28-29, 2012. SMWC’s riders swept the competition, including Ball State University, Butler University, Eastern Illinois University, Indiana University, Parkland College, Purdue University, Purdue-Calumet University, St. Mary's College (Notre Dame) and University of Illinois, all teams from the region or Division I programs.

On Jan. 21, 2012, SMWC students explored creative and diverse leadership tactics in the first annual student leadership summit. Kimberly LaGrange of Prime Resources, Inc., gave the keynote address.

Inspirational Muslim speaker, author and life coach, Zohra Sarwari will educate others about diversity using humor and personal experiences that leave audiences transformed at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Four-Star Series. Sarwari will present “Are Muslim Women Oppressed?” on February 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the Cecilian Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

To commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College teams up with Indiana State University to serve Wabash Valley nonprofit agencies on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, for the MLK Day of Service. Student volunteers will lend a helping hand to support local community agencies in their missions.
