SMWC honors the fallen

For a second year, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has joined the National Roll Call project to honor American service men and women by hosting simultaneous ceremonies across the nation. On Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, the names of more than 6,600 fallen soldiers will be read aloud by students, faculty, staff and volunteers on the front lawn of SMWC’s Rooney Library from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SMWC launches new financial leadership master’s program in February 2013

MLD’s new financial leadership track is designed to meet the current CPA + Indiana requirements and prepares students for the Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Management Accountant, certified forensic accountant and certified fraud examiner tests. This program provides much more than required hours, it provides in-depth training on the current technologies and trends in the rigorous financial world.

Pomeroys head to nationals

For the fourth consecutive year, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College cross-country team heads to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) 2012 Cross Country National Championship. The competition takes place in Lake Placid, N.Y., at the U.S. Winter Olympic Training Center on November 9, 2012, at 11 am.

International scientist to speak at The Woods

Drawn to the mysteries of tropical rain forests and dedicated to a life of scientific expeditions in the treetops, Margaret Lowman, Ph.D., pioneered the science of canopy ecology. She will share her experiences at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Four Star Series on November 2, 2012, in Cecilian Auditorium at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The Woods launches $11M campaign

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College embarks on an $11M campaign aimed at enriching the total college experience and increasing recruitment efforts by building a sports and recreation center, according to President Dottie L. King, Ph.D. The College kicks off the campaign on Friday, October 12, 2012, with a gala fundraiser for donors and friends that highlights opportunities for supporters to become involved. The College has raised $6.5 million of the funds needed to build the facility during the quiet phase of the campaign.

A SMART way to learn: SMWC upgrades student success – both campus and distance – with new technology

Guided by the director of SMWC’s learning resource center, Kimberly LaComba, tutors can access a distance student’s computer and help them solve an equation, edit an essay or practice for a test – all in real time. With the help of a grant from the Clara Fairbanks Foundation, SMWC upgraded the LRC’s technology to include a SMART board.

Town Mountain performs at The Woods

Thanks to their relatable, unforgettable lyrics and their impressive stage presence and swagger, Town Mountain manages to rise above many of bluegrass bands touring today. Town Mountain will perform their distinctive sound at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Four-Star Series on October 23, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., in the Cecilian Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.
