Four-Star Series presents Vera Bradley

Those famous paisley patterns, swirls of pinks, greens and blacks, became an overnight sensation in women’s fashion. The trendy totes are so recognizable, that the name Vera Bradley is now a staple in department stores and upscale boutiques across the country. Branding that effective doesn’t happen by chance. Hear the intriguing and informative Vera Bradley story from Jill Nichols, executive vice president for Vera Bradley, on March 21, 2012, at 7 p.m., in the Cecilian Auditorium at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Nichols will focus on maintaining a positive and productive company culture, fostering brand and customer loyalty through relationships, as well as discuss other topics in the business world. The event is free and open to the public.

Vera Bradley is a tribute to the American dream. In 1982, founders Patricia R. Miller and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, sought to create luggage with a feminine appeal. Within weeks of the initial idea, these entrepreneurs launched the company named after Barbara’s mother. The distinctive styles, designs and quality continue to resonate with consumers, turning Vera Bradley into a global enterprise. Located in Fort Wayne, Ind., Vera Bradley has more than 3,500 retailers and stand-alone stores and employs more than 900 people.

With the company for more than 21 years, Nichols served in a variety of positions, including controller, director of operations and chief operating officer. A graduate of Indiana University, she completed the Leadership Fort Wayne program and has participated in a variety of volunteering opportunities. She currently serves as a director and the treasurer of the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, the chair of Riley Children’s Foundation’s NE Regional Team and a co-chair of a capital campaign for Day Away, a local daycare for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Four-Star Series at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College offers a diverse spectrum of performing arts and esteemed speakers who inspire, challenge and stimulate the imagination. Designed to enhance the College’s curriculum and to enrich cultural exploration, the series has presented world-renowned lectures, musicians and productions.
