Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College President Dottie L. King, Ph.D. has been named to the board of directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) effective July 1.

A national advocate and institutional voice for academic quality through accreditation, CHEA is an association of degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations. Headquartered in Washington, D. C., CHEA also serves as a national voice for accreditation and quality assurance to the U.S. Congress, U.S. Department of Education, the general public, opinion leaders, students and families.

During her three-year term, King will focus on the role of accreditation, emerging issues and serving students as well as federal policy.

“I am honored to be elected to the CHEA board,” said King. “I look forward to continuing to advance its core academic values that are central to higher education and quality standards. These standards provide consistent information about academic quality to assist students and families in their education decision-making process.”
