Financial literacy programs for college students help to balance their education and provide a solid foundation that leads to a lifetime of financial success. This is the goal with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s financial symposium, “Focus the Woods: Our Financial Future.” It takes place on April 24, 2012, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Hayes Auditorium. The symposium coincides with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Money Smart Week in Indiana (April 21-28, 2012) that includes a series of classes and activities designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.
Jim Tanoos, Ph.D., assistant professor of business at SMWC said the symposium will help prepare students to handle their own personal finances and to excel during their college years and beyond.
“Students face more economic challenges in today’s complex world with high gas prices, student loans, proliferations of credit card usage, etc. and as such, financial awareness is an important factor for young people to be successful,” added Tanoos. “We are pleased that our symposium experts will help to weave financial education into the fabric of our campus.”
