1. Find your zone
A new year brings motivation. Before starting classes, make sure to outline your schedule. Think about when the best times to study and do homework may be. Between practices, meetings and being social, it’s crucial to have designated time blocks to devote to your studies. While blocking out study times, think about the setting you want to study in, too. Limiting distractions will allow you to make the most of your homework and study sessions.
2. Get organized
During the first week of classes, you’ll generally receive a syllabus from your professor. Be sure to take note of important days, deadlines, etc. This will help set you up for a successful semester.
3. Understand resources
At SMWC, numerous resources will assist you in having a successful semester. From tutoring offered in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to setting one-on-one meetings with your advisor. Also, remember that the Counseling Center is always available for sessions when you might feel overwhelmed or need someone to talk to. At The Woods, everyone has your back and wants you to succeed. Resources like the Career Center can also be beneficial for finding internships, developing relationships with mentors and more.
4. Connect
Keep in mind that in addition to study sessions and devoting time to homework, it’s important to relax and connect with your friends. Whether you go out for pizza or go bowling with a group, having fun experiences is also a big part of college. Joining a club or attending campus events are also fun ways to decompress at school.
5. Stay positive and remember your goals
College can be challenging, so it’s important to remind yourself why you started your collegiate journey. Stay positive and keep yourself motivated. Continue to remember your goals and that at SMWC, you’re always encouraged to aspire higher.
